ArtWorks: A
Visual Arts Coalition
We
are
a non-profit organization of artists, patrons and supporters
dedicated to creating a sustainable art community in the Bowling
Green, Kentucky area by increasing visibility, vitality and
economic growth for the visual arts.
ArtWorks is committed to empowering visual artists through
exhibition, educational, and professional opportunities. Through
this empowerment we will strive to become the voice of leadership
for the visual arts in south central Kentucky.
Exhibitions:
The 5th Annual Art Exhibition is underway at the
Houchens Gallery in the Capitol Arts Alliance, 416 E. Main Street
in Bowling Green. Members who won awards at the opening
reception/award ceremony Friday, May 11 include, 2d division:
Lorraine Streckfus, Best of Show for "In the Pink," Lauren
Milliken, 1st place 2d for "Oh Deere," Janet Young, 2nd place 2d
for "The Mysterious," David Jones, 3rd place 2d for "Cage Free,
and Jared Weaver, 4th place 2d for "Ghost Limbs." The following
received merit awards in 2d: Steve Clay for ”Crushed," Myra Dwyer
for "Nocturnal Cattails," Angela Kuprion for "Bearded Man," Cheree
Federico for "Intrusion," Jay Dougherty for "Peoples Hardware,"
Cheree Federico for "Tickled Pink," Fleur Whitaker for "Nailed,"
and Angela Kuprion for "Team Concept." The 3d division winners:
Laura Bain-Selbo, 1st place for "Generations," Jared Weaver, 2nd
place for "Spathe," Bob Brigl, 3rd place for "None so Blind as
Those that Refuse to See," and Laura Bain-Selbo, 4th place for "At
Rest." Merit winners in 3d include Bill Van Tassel for "As Seen
on TV" and Jill Gentry for "Linked up Hearts." Best Amateur:
Darren Mason for "Squiggle 2," Garry Feltus, 2nd place for "Mill
Reflection," and Steve Haggbloom, 3rd place for "Narcissism."
Honorable Mentions were given to Matt Fleischmann for "Uninvited,"
and to Lesley Montgomery for "Kentucky Spring."
The show is open through June 5, 2012.
